UK buyers invest in the Sunshine State PDF Print E-mail

It seems to be a buyer's market.

Property developers generally agree Florida will always be in demand. Buying in Florida will be one of the best investments to make in the long term. With the inauguration of Barack Obama as president last month, it is perceived that the American economy will be given a positive nudge forward.

Charlie Patel is one of many new British buyers who believe that, after a number of years of stagnant and falling prices, now is the best time to invest in Florida. Agents are reporting new green shoots of recovery in the Sunshine State and have seen continuing increases in sales volume for six months; the market peaked in the second half of 2004 and fell flat in the second half of 2008.

Orlando properties are a great interest to British buyers who are looking for villas near Disney World for their own use or as holiday lets. Bill Cowie, a business consultant for the Orlando-based British Homes Group has reported that the price of a three-bedroom detached house with a private pool doubled between 2001 and 2006, reaching $350,000. By Summer 2008, however, those properties plummeted to $300,000. He believes the Orlando market is still soft, but there are signs of life where sales have increased and prices are stabilising.
